I haven’t really thought through what the best title I can give. Just the first thought this morning when I stepped on the ground.

The snow from last snowstorm has not yet melted and another came layering it up yesterday. This morning streets get very white. And I just thought of this song, very literally.

Suede — Snowblind (Offical Audio)

There is a not-very-surprising-but-special-to-me story of how I knew Suede and all of a sudden I got obsessed with them sometimes. Mostly because of their piercing narratives of the world they observed.

Snowblind comes out from their album Bloodsports (2013), and I would say it’s my favorite track of this album. Even though Brett and Mat looked at it very differently and their feeling toward this song mainly relates to its composition and guitar, riff arrangement according to their interview. I felt a bit down when I first learnt I was not able to get anything more from them about this song. However, I then tend to enjoy it more myself and it is definitely saved in my pocket playlist forever.

The air is still, we are struck like matches
Too beautiful to really care what’s right

The opening lines are pretty standard but I just love it. I consider snowblind not as a love song but a revival after dramatic moment. Or something more like going deep down, try to survive mother nature or lifetime hardship. Just like the guitar is bursting with grief yet tenacious through the song. I can even imagine the band’s dramatic act when playing its bridge. Brett’s vocal adds up the aftermath of emotional outlets which is kind of opposite to the restraint of lyrics. I am totally haunted by this contradiction. It makes me reflect some parts of my life and it seems very true.

Anyway, I think snowblind is a song especially for winter. And I have to find some time to write about Suede, definitely. Hope you enjoy it as well.
